I recently completed work on a new logo / visual identity for Petra Church (formerly known as Petra Christian Fellowship) in New Holland, PA. I worked with the Petra leadership team to evaluate the Petra Church “brand” and work through a process to develop a new look for the church’s visual identity. In addition to

I worked with Ryan Horst from Premier Tree Service Inc to create a brand identity for his tree service business. This included initial brand analysis, developing a visual identity / logo, vehicle graphics for a pickup and a bucket truck, a 1-page website, and other business collateral. Below are photos of the vehicle graphics that I designed.

Jubilee Heritage Cheese branding

Jubilee Dairy, a family farm near Middletown, PA, was in need of a logo for the cheese they’ve been producing. I was happy to help. The folks at Jubilee Dairy wanted to use some imagery of their family, playing off the slogan of “Ten Generations Farming Locally.” The original cheese labels they had created themselves

Happy Birthday WordPress

If you haven’t heard, WordPress has officially turned 10 years old. Might not seem like a big deal, but in the fast paced world of internet technologies, 10 years is a long time! WordPress went from being a small blogging platform back in 2003, to now a full-fledged content management system, powering approximately 18% of

TheCabinetJoint.com – Before & After a Website Redesign

The Cabinet Joint - before and after the website redesign

I recently completed a website redesign and rebuild for thecabinetjoint.com. This site sells ready to assemble cabinets, cabinet doors, and cabinet accessories. The old site was cluttered, difficult to navigate, and only displayed products within downloadable PDFs. With the new site, we reimagined the whole user interface, gave it a more upscale design, revamped the navigation and page structure, and added pages for every product.

Website Redesign – GiftWorks

GiftWorks screenshot of homepage

Just launched – a website redesign for GiftWorks, a software company that specializes in fundraising/donor management tools and services.

One of the project goals was to reorganize their site to achieve a greater focus and clarity about what GiftWorks can do. I designed the look and feel of the site to have a fresh appearance while keeping their recognizable visual identity. Then I developed a custom theme for the site to be powered by WordPress, which allowed us to cost-effectively add some powerful features, such as a built-in e-commerce section, advanced webforms with conditional logic, webinar registration integration, a built-in blog, and more.

A new name and an updated brand

In my last post I wrote about SalesMedics and their updated visual identity / website that I had recently completed. As it turned out, in the several weeks since we had launched the new website, their business had been expanding beyond their original scope and focus. In the process of retooling and refocusing, they realized the original SalesMedics name no longer reflected their current emphasis for leadership development work. So what happens when the original brand no longer accurately reflects the current business?

New work for SalesMedics

SalesMedics logo

I recently completed work on an updated visual identity and website for SalesMedics, a leadership development consultancy firm that specializes in working with the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry. The identity was inspired by their tagline – “The heartbeat of leadership.”

What is “coworking”?

Being involved in Lancaster’s coworking space – The Candy Factory – has had tangible benefits for my business through increased networking, collaboration, sharing of ideas and resources. In fact, right now some of my projects are collaborations between myself and others working at The Candy Factory.
So what is coworking anyway?

I came across this video that does a much better job of explaining the movement than I can. Enjoy.

Designing for Emotion – Book Review

Designing for Emotion book

I just finished reading Designing for Emotion, by Aarron Walter. It’s another fantastic addition to the “A Book Apart” series (brief books for people who make websites). Aarron works as lead user experience designer for MailChimp, so he knows a thing or two about making design more emotionally engaging and building brand loyalty.

The premise of the book is that in addition to websites being functional, reliable, and usable, they should also provide their visitors with a pleasurable experience. Why can’t visiting a website and completing a task online be fun, and not just functional?

I’ve been using Facebook for a while, but only recently created a business page for Greg Yoder Graphic Design. Check it out, and when you get there, click “Like” so that you can follow me.

Looking back at an older project – banner design

I’ve got a lot of exciting projects in the works for 2012. However, I’d also like to use this blog to highlight some past projects I’ve done over the years.

Back in 2004, Lancaster Theological Seminary asked me to design a banner for their graduating class at the time. The theme was “Called to Serve.” After exploring some different ideas, I settled on this concept . . .
